I went to Liverpool on Saturday for some uni stuff. There’s a Nam June Paik exhibition running at both FACT and Tate at the moment, and I’m doing a thing about multimedia art for this thing. FACT had presented their stuff best I think, with comfy sofas and headphones that mean you can watch whole films and forget anyone else is there. And there’s a massive lazer cone thing which would be AMAZING if you were high. Over at Tate it more sculptural, and they concentrate on Paik’s collaborations with John Cage and Charlotte Moorman. John Cage fascinates me, but Charlotte Moorman strikes me as a bit of an art school tosser. I was thinking a bit about her over the weekend though, and I might just be sexist. The best thing of all was at Tate though; the ‘Video Garden’ that is pictured here. It took up a whole room within the exhibition, so rang all my bells re immersive environments. It suddenly felt like we were in something, instead of just looking at something.
