I use the arts as a coping mechanism.
Here I am on Twitter.

It’s been a bit YAWN YAWN McYAWNFACE round here recently. I’ve been working hard and doing loads of uni stuff which I guess I find interesting but I always assume that you Tumblr folk won’t much fancy reading a post entitled ‘What Meg Learnt About The Frankfurt School’s Theory On The Mass Production Of Culture Today’.

I’ve been to see Alice In Wonderland which was a bit rubbish, and I went to see my faves The Travelling Band, and that was a bit rubbish too. Then at work I’ve seen The Long Road, which is also a bit rubbish. If it wasn’t for the Lady Gaga and Beyonce video, I’d be truly starved of cultural stimulation. Although, to be fair, if one more person tries to tell me that Gaga is a feminist icon (strutting around a female prison entirely populated by lesbians in their knickers) then I’ll have to cause a scene. But I do like that clapping dance, and the wig-phone-eyepatch-thing.

Today I’ve watched On The Beach, which has kinda restored my faith in humanity, despite the fact that the human race is killed off at the end. Ava Gardner is fucking awesome. She’s like Joan from Mad Men, except pissed, and that scene on the porch near the beginning is just fantastic. She does the best drunken hair shake I’ve ever seen. Anthony Perkins is in it too, looking every bit the Psycho-in-training (must buy that Hitchcock box set) and Fred Astaire, who has the most ridiculously shaped head. And my mother’s beloved Gregory Peck, who is in training to play Atticus Finch. At one point Ava Gardner gets so pissed that he puts her to bed and washes her face. You don’t get that in modern day rom-coms. When was the last time you saw Gerard Butler wash a woman’s face? Hmmm?

I’d go so far as to say that Gregory Peck washing Ava Gardner’s face is the new Beyonce feeding Lady Gaga a pasty.
